North west health in course with south african-cuban medical programme |

Working towards addressing the national shortage of doctors, the Department of Health in the North West Province has since 1998 been sending young people from disadvantaged communities to Cuba to study medicine through the South African-Cuban Medical Programme. Thus far, the programme has produced 37 Medical Graduates with ten currently serving in the provincial health institutions while 27 are still on an internship programme in rural health facilities.
